Firstly and most importantly everyone needs to remember that this is a game and a hobby for everyone at any given game day, with this in mind all players are urged to watch temperaments while on site. The site rules set out here are not only to ensure everyone is playing the same game but also to assist with player safety and to go toward making every game event a good day for all who take part.
Please take some time to familiarise yourselves with these rules as they are the basis of the game that we all enjoy playing, if people decide to ignore or break any of these rules it can lead to creating an unpleasant situation for other players and can potentially lead to people being dismissed from the site if safety based rules are broken.
The Basics
Age requirements: To play airsoft at Combat Action Games players must be 14 years of age and older, players can be 11 years of age at a minimum however at this age they must be accompanied by an adult who may either play or wear a hi-vis and shadow the games.
Once you arrive at the game site please ensure you park sensibly and not in a way that blocks the main entrance way onto the site. Once parked your first port of call should be the safe zone hut, here you should promptly pay for your game day and sign yourself in stating whether you are playing a full or half day. While we all like to have a chat with the other site attendees please ensure you do promptly sign in, the sign in sheet is not only there to help us keep a record of who is playing but it is also a health and safety item, from this we are able to check off all players attending should an emergency situation arise!
All site staff for the day will be wearing a hi-visibility vest so they are easily separated from the players, there will be staff within the safe zone throughout the entirety of the day and also out in the middle of all the action. If a member of staff asks you to do something it will be for a good reason, please do as you are asked by any member of staff. During game play if a member of staff is needed to resolve a dispute the marshals word is final and under no circumstances should anyone argue with a member of staff. If you have an issue with a decision made by a game marshal you are advised to approach management, they will in turn speak with the game marshal involved and address any issues that may arise.
Before the start of each game day a safety briefing is read aloud to all players, during this briefing everyone playing is required to be present and paying attention to the briefing. While many of us have heard the safety briefing many times before, everyone needs to listen in case any changes have been made and to ensure they do not distract any other players from being able to hear the information presented during the briefing.
While in the safe zone no weapon is permitted to have a magazine or any ammunition installed, this is for the safety of everyone as in the safe zone very few people will be wearing eye protection, if you wish to show of your newly pimped weapon please put on eye/face protection and leave the safe zone before installing magazines or ammunition.
During game play all players and staff are required to wear appropriate eye/face protection, players under the age of 16 are required to wear full face protection and it is advised that all players do the same, however, players over 16 can wear shooting glasses and similar items should they so choose. If you are unsure whether your eye protection is adequate for airsoft please seek advise from a staff member.
Power limits are set for all classes of weapon and some weapons come with an engagement range, below is a quick list of weapon type, power limit and engagement ranges, an engagement range is the minimum distance you can be from your target to be permitted to fire upon them:
Pistols: Power limit = 350 feet per seconds
Minimum Engagement range = None
Fire mode = No restriction
Assault rifles: Power limit = 350 feet per second
Minimum engagement range = None
Fire mode = No restriction
SMG's: Power limit = 350 feet per second
Minimum engagement range = None
Fire mode = No restriction
Support weapons: Power limit = 350 feet per second
Minimum engagement range = None
Fire mode = No restriction
Designated marksman rifles (DMR's): Power limit = 425 feet per second
Minimum engagement range = 25 metres
Fire mode = Semi auto only.
Sniper rifles: Power limit = 500 feet per second
Minimum engagement range = 25 metres
Fire mode = Bolt action only.
Please note all DMR's are restricted to semi-automatic only and these rifles are not permitted to have a functioning full auto firing mode.
While there is no minimum engagement range in place for certain weapon types please use common sense to decide whether or not pulling the trigger on someone is likely to cause any problems, if you manage to sneak up to another player you can always opt for a "Surrender" kill. A "Surrender" is where you get within 5 metres of your target, you may then proceed to ask the player to "surrender", if the player chooses to surrender they should take this as a hit, raise their hand and leave to the nearest re-spawn. Should the target not wish to surrender and they attempt to fire upon you then by all means fire upon them, do bear in mind though that you are in close proximity to another player so please aim any shots carefully and not at the players face or head. If you are trying to "Knife kill" another player you must be within touching range of the target player.
Pyrotechnics:
Everyone loves a good pyro but for safety reasons there are rules on the use of pyro. No one under the age of 18 is permitted to buy or use pyro on site, if the site is going through a very dry spell during the summer months all players should first check if the use of pyro is permitted, this will be mentioned in safety briefings also, anyone using pyro's should be mindful of where they are about to throw it and once a pyro is lit and thrown NO ONE is to pick it up or touch it as doing so may cause severe injury from either the ignition source or the actual detonation of the pyro. Once an exploding pyro is in play when it detonates anyone within a 5 metre radius of the pyro is considered out of play until they re-spawn or the game ends. There are restrictions on the kind of pyro players are permitted to use on site and if you have purchased your own pyro from elsewhere you should have it checked by a site official before using it, Combat Action Games does stock and sell certain pyro's and all pyro's sold by Combat Action Games are useable on site, age restrictions apply.
In game calls to listen out for.
By site staff:
1) "Game on!" Quite a easy one to guess, this notifies all players that the game has started.
2) "Game over!" The call made when an objective is completed, time has run out or a game just simply comes to an end.
3) "Cease fire!" If you hear this call stop firing, put weapons on safe, stay where you are and listen out for further instructions, this call is usually used when an issue has arisen in game that requires that site staffs full attention. After the issue is sorted the Game on call will be used to let all know it is safe to continue play.
4) "Mags out!" While in between games a member of staff may ask everyone to mag out, this means all players need to remove mags from guns, ensure any rounds inside the inner barrel are cleared, put your weapon on safe and listen for further instruction. This call is usually made if there is going to be a briefing between games or similar and players are given the opportunity to remove eye protection.
5) "Goggle up!" Before leaving the safe zone or after an in-field briefing all players will be advised to put on eye/face protection using this call.
It is important to listen to marshals and site staff at all times.
Player calls:
1) "HIT!" Self explanatory
2) "Surrender", explained earlier on.
3) "BANG!" again explained earlier.
4) "Knife", "knife kill" or "psst, you are dead mate". Explained earlier also.
5) Players may also use the "Cease fire" call, this is only to be used in an emergency situation though such as goggles fell off, someone has been injured etc etc. If this call is made players should react as if it were said by a marshal and then seek the attention of the nearest marshal to deal with the situation. If you wish to instruct team mates to stop firing as a tactical command please do not shout cease fire, use an alternative call such as "Hold your fire" or something similar.
Hit taking:
If you are hit by a bb during gameplay you need to make a loud clear call of "HIT" and raise your hand in the air and make your way to a re-spawn point or dead zone. All bb hits count as a hit, whether they are a ricochet, a gun hit or a random bb falling from the sky and even team kills count as a hit. Players are asked to be vigilant with their hit taking, if you are unsure if you were hit or not the best course of action is to assume you were and call the hit.
If at any point you think a player may not be taking hits correctly please approach a game marshal and do not start shouting at the player or players you believe to be avoiding the hits. The marshal will then keep an eye on the player in question. Taking your hits is an essential part of playing the game, it keeps the game moving and if all players are playing fairly it makes the game more enjoyable for all involved. Anyone caught not taking their hits will be spoken to on an individual basis to make them aware of what will happen as a result of their cheating, as previously mentioned if you are unsure if you were hit or not the best course of action is to assume you were and call the hit.
